George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens is the historic estate of GW. Visits can tour the mansion and other outbuildings like a stable and a greenhouse. Mount Vernon also has four gardens, a hiking trail, and a four-acre working farm. You can also visit the George and Martha Washington’s tombs. There are also shops and a restaurant.

Prices: One day passes are available. Adults (12 and older) $15; Youth (6-11 years old) $7, Seniors (62 and older) $14; Children (5 and under) free. (Subject to change.)

Transportation: Mount Vernon is Metro accessible, sort of. Take the Yellow Line Metro to the Huntington Station Exit at the lower level (Huntington Avenue) of the station to catch a Fairfax Connector bus to Mount Vernon. For information about trains, call Metro at (202) 637-7000.
